HUDDERSFIELD Art Society has made eight annual awards to young artists.

Eight pupils from local secondary schools were chosen by their art teachers and headteachers to receive a Hamer Award from the Society.

The Hamer Awards have been given out by the Society annually for the past 30 years, in memory of former president John Hamer.

They were presented on Monday at AC Framing on Byram Street, Huddersfield, where the works were framed free of charge.

Each award winner receives £25 to spend on art materials.

The youngsters' work is being exhibited at AC Framing's gallery this week.

It will then move to Huddersfield Art Gallery, where it will feature alongside an exhibition of work by members of the Society during October and November.

The winning students were: Joseph Firth (Newsome), Mhairi Scott (Shelley), Lucinda Croft (King James's School), Samantha McCall (Huddersfield New College), Benedict Woodhead (Honley High School), Peter Hinchliffe (Moor End Technology College), Lucy Boyce (Holmfirth) and Andy Robinson (Greenhead College).
