DEWSBURY student photographers will get extra support from a major camera firm.

Dewsbury College has scooped a major honour after being one of a select band of colleges to be invited to join the prestigious Nikon Academy.

More than 30 students on the Contemporary Photographic Arts BA (Honours) course will be given support and advice from the world-renowned photography firm and its team of professional photographers.

They will also be able to take advantage of Nikon’s state-of-the-art equipment for field trips as part of their qualification.

Lecturer Katrina Whitehead said the department would benefit from visiting professional photographers, demonstrations of equipment and equipment loans.

She said: “We try to take students on as many trips as we can each year so the additional support will be very helpful.”

Nikon invited Dewsbury College to join its prestigious Academy after being impressed by the standard of photography students’ work displayed at the college stand during a recent visit to the NEC Focus Exhibition in Birmingham.
