STUDENTS in Calder- dale have been carrying out speed checks as part of a drive to encourage motorists to slow down.
Students at Calderdale College, Halifax, carried out a traffic survey around the college to identify blackspots.
And they found drivers breaking the 20mph speed limit by more than 10mph.
Kate Marsh, Calder- dale's deputy road safety officer, said: "The college has a number of students with learning and mobility problems.
"Understandably these students find crossing the road challenging - 20mph speed limits are put in place to protect the most vulnerable members of our society.
"They must be resp- ected."
The survey was carried out after students using wheelchairs found illegally parked cars were blocking the drop-kerb areas they need for crossing.
The results of the speed checks and parking surveys will now be sent to Calderdale Road Traffic Police.
