A STUDY has been launched to see how Elland's economy can be boosted.

Regional development agency Yorkshire Forward is funding a survey into whether a regeneration project would attract investment and employment opportunities in the town.

Yorkshire Forward is conducting the study in response to a campaign by Calder Valley MP Chris McCafferty.

She set up a discussion last year between Calderdale Council, local MPs and Yorkshire Forward about the possibility of regenerating Elland.

She said Elland's location near the M62 made it a prime site for development.

She said: "With surrounding areas benefiting from major regeneration schemes and with pressure for industrial sites to be changed into housing, it is essential to have a master plan for the community which takes advantage of the opportunity to bring new jobs into the area."

The survey is set to start in the next few weeks and will include a public consultation event on March 18.

The results of the study will be annou- nced in early May.

Mrs McCafferty said: "I hope people with an interest in the area will have their say."

Anyone who wants to give their views is asked to contact Mrs McCafferty's office by phone on 01422 843713 or by letter to 15 Heptonstall Rd, Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, HX7 6AZ.
