A SUBWAY which left people feeling threatened has a fresh, new look.

Kirklees Council workers have completed a clean-up of the Trinity Street subway beneath Huddersfield Ring Road after many complaints.

Staff and students at the adjacent Huddersfield Technical College said the dark, dingy subway was too dangerous to use.

And security staff at the college have extended their patrols to take in the subway in the early mornings.

But now the clean-up has been completed and was welcomed by ward councillor Jim O'Reilly.

He said: "The council staff have done an excellent job.

"They have painted the walls and roof, getting rid of the graffiti, and have cleared all the drains to stop flooding.

"They have also installed new, brighter lights, which makes it far safer for people to use."
