An asylum seeker has been convicted of sexually assaulting a disabled woman.

Sudanese Yahya Edrees, of no fixed abode, groped a 34-year-old woman with learning difficulties in Hillhouse, on March 20.

Edrees assaulted the woman after brushing up against her and telling her she had nice eyes and a nice body, Kirklees magistrates heard on Tuesday.

The court heard Edrees, 26, confessed immediately to police shortly after the attack.

Prosecuting Ben Crossland said: “The complainant suffers from mild learning disabilities.

“He intentionally brushed up against her and said she had nice eyes and a nice body.

“Then he reached towards her groin.”

Edrees, who has been granted a five-year stay in the UK, admitted one charge of sexual touching over clothing.

Defending solicitor Aftaab Hussain said Edrees had confessed to the offence at the first opportunity.

Mr Hussain said: “At the police station he made a full and frank admission in relation to the offence.”

Unemployed Edrees, formerly of Hillhouse, was bailed to appear for sentencing at Kirklees Magistrates Court, on April 22.
