HUDDERSFIELD played host to a summer fete to promote the young people's service Connexions.

Connexions is a Government scheme designed to make sure all 13 to 19-year-olds can get help from a personal adviser.

Personal advisers give one-to-one support about issues including education, family, careers, bullying and substance abuse.

They also work with other agencies to support young people.

Kirklees Council's Young People's Service organised the promotional fete, which took place at Aldonley playing fields, Almondbury.

The youngsters pictured are trying out the DJ workshop. There was also an inflatable boxing ring, a rap workshop and a free barbecue.

Stalls were set up by groups offering advice or activity for young people including Connexions, Drugsense, careers advisers and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Young people also met personal advisers.

A second fete is to be held at Skelmanthorpe Youth Club on Lodge Street tomorrow. There will be a free barbecue, DJ workshop, stalls, a bucking bronco and dancing.

Any young person who cannot attend, but has something they want to discuss, should phone Joanne Schofield on 01484 223377.
