A MAN who got stuck in a town centre toilet had to be rescued by firefighters.

The man in his 40s had gone into the so-called Super Loo on Market Street in Huddersfield town centre at 10.50am yesterday, but was unable to get out when the door became faulty.

In desperation he banged on the sides until a passerby heard him and alerted firefighters to his plight.

The crew had to take a panel out of the ceiling.

They then put a ladder down and the man made a somewhat humiliating exit through the roof, several minutes after getting stuck.

It was the second time in two months that firefighters have had to rescue red-faced users of the Super Loo.

Last month a man was trapped inside for 45 minutes.

Council officials plan to get rid of the loo. Recently they admitted few people want to use it - even when it is working properly.

A council spokesman said: "The loo is serviced by a maintenance company and they have carried out repairs. It is due to be closed."
