Top singing sensation Heather Small is to headline a concert in Huddersfield.

Organisers of next month’s Charity Dreamgirls concert are delighted with their coup in securing the star for the venture.

Small – who rose to fame with M People – normally plays arena gigs.

But on Friday, November 29, she will take to the stage at Huddersfield Town Hall to headline a concert which also includes the likes of Jaz Ellington, The Risk and Melanie Masson.

Dreamgirls organiser Kate Hardcastle, said: “Heather does not usually play more regional or smaller venues and we have spent months negotiating this opportunity for Huddersfield

“We feel Heather is the perfect artist to celebrate seven years of the Charity Dreamgirls and, indeed, our first ever concert in Huddersfield.

“Tickets to her concerts usually cost upwards to £50 – however the Town Hall ticket holders for the Charity Dreamgirls concert will see seven amazing acts celebrating seven years for just £10.’’

During her career Heather has sold millions of records, won two Brit Awards and the Mercury Music Prize and performed across the world.

As Part of M People, she had hits such as ‘Moving On Up’, ‘One Night In Heaven’ and ‘Search For The Hero’, while albums like Elegant Slumming, Bizarre Fruit and Fresco achieved worldwide success.

Her two solo albums received wide acclaim – the title track of her ‘Proud’ album became the soundtrack to a whole host of special events including London’s successful 2012 Olympic bid, the 60th anniversary of VE Day in Trafalgar Square and the launch of Queen Mary 2.

Well known for her charitable work, Heather was recently made an ambassador for the children’s charity Barnardo’s.

She is continually involved with fundraising and lending her support to projects around the country.

Kate added: “Proud was the song of the Olympics and is one of Heather’s amazing and uplifting tracks

“When I founded the Charity Dreamgirls seven years ago Heather’s iconic music really was the soundtrack to all we were doing.

“Music and lyrics like Proud and Hero Inside really provide the perfect tribute to all volunteers involved with the Charity Dreamgirls – and the many charities we have supported over the years.

“Now it’s time for my home town to get the best seats in the house for the best concert in Huddersfield this year.”
