Two men have been sentenced for their part in an incident outside the Kewz Club in Huddersfield.

Duet Guy and Steve Sharpe were dealt with separately at Leeds Crown Court after Recorder Martin Simpson heard they were on opposing sides.

Nicholas de la Poer prosecuting said there was some kind of altercation between Guy and Sharpe earlier on the evening of February 23 last year which resulted in Guy going home and arming himself with a table leg. He returned and went towards Sharpe and they exchanged blows with Sharpe simply defending himself.

But in the course of the struggle Guy fell over backwards towards the kerb and broke his ankle.

He was then lying on the ground when Sharpe was seen to pick up a lock knife which was lying on the floor. He went towards Guy brandishing it at him and remonstrating but did nothing else with it before he was ushered away.

The court heard since that incident Guy had been jailed for three years for drug offences in July 2014.

Patrick Palmer for Guy said once this case was over and sentences completed he would be sent back to Jamaica where his family lived and intended to make a fresh start.
