A CHEMIST is warning people to watch out for potentially dangerous drugs stolen from his shop.

Mr Asghar Khan, owner of Medicare in Westgate, Honley, said 1,000 tablets of the powerful drug diazepam were stolen in the third burglary at the shop in two weeks.

The drug is used to treat people with anxiety or sleep problems.

It can cause drowsiness, affect breathing and cause effects similar to an overdose of sleeping pills.

Mr Khan said the missing bottle was clearly labelled, but children could mistake the pills for sweets.

"We want people to keep an eye out for people trying to sell tablets," he said.

"They can be dangerous."

He urged anyone who found them to take them to the police.

Mr Khan said vitamin pills and tonics, such as Lemsip cold remedy, were stolen during last Thursday's raid.

"Vitamins can be dangerous, too if taken in large amounts," he said.

On August 10, cosmetics, including Rimmel and Max Factor products, were taken.

Four days later more cosmetics were stolen and the whole till unit taken.

Mr Khan believes the same thieves committed all three crimes, because of the similarities in the incidents.

Today, he was installing security cameras in the shop.

Mr Khan hopes a CCTV camera already outside will help police catch the thieves.

He added: "The camera points right at the shop, so police should be able to see the whole incident on tape."
