A NEW management system will be introduced in the West Yorkshire Fire And Rescue Service.

District managers will be appointed to improve local accountability and form close working partnerships with local authorities.

Kirklees, Calderdale, Wakefield, Leeds and Bradford will each have a manager in charge of all fire stations and community fire teams on their patch.

They will be appointed from existing staff.

Acting Chief Fire Officer Simon Pilling said: "We have had to respond to a variety of new challenges in recent years, not least risk management planning and the emergence of inter-agency partnerships.

"This means we must change how we work."
