ANOTHER Huddersfield pub could close.

Planners have been asked to decide if the Somerset Arms in Wakefield Road, Aspley, can be converted into a variety of uses.

A new planning application has been submitted for a hot food takeaway and a shop on the ground floor of the 1930s building with a new frontage.

The applicant also wants to build a two-storey extension at the rear of the premises and create two four-bedroom houses for multiple occupancy and two studio flats.

The building is not listed but planning officials have said it could be considered a heritage asset to the area.

The Somerset is one of Huddersfield’s traditional local pubs and has been in use for many decades.

The application is due to be considered by Kirklees planners within the next four weeks.
