LADIES who lunch were entertained by stories from James Herriot’s son, James Wight, at a fundraising event organised by the Fixby Friends.

He talked about his father’s life as a vet, regaled them with amusing tales and signed copies of his book about his father.

Ticket sales for the lunch and talk raised £550 for the West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust, with raffle ticket sales pushing the total to over £800.

More than 100 people were at the lunch at Briar Court Hotel in Birchencliffe, who donated the room. Mr Wight waived his fee.

The Fixby Friends are a support group of the Forget Me Not Trust and hold various events to raise money.

Diane Dutton, who helped to organise the lunch and talk, said she was looking forward to their Christmas fair.

She added: “We’ve got a hedgehog rescue scheme, so it’s a bit different from your usual fair. We hope for lots of visitors and to bring along children who will love the hedgehogs.”

The fair is at St Francis’s Church, Fixby, next Saturday.
