TALKS have been held on how new laws will affect disabled tenants.

Members of Kirklees Federation of Tenants' and Residents' Associations met members of the Kirklees Disability Rights Network at the Textile Centre, Red Doles Lane, Bradley Mills.

The two groups discussed what the Disability Discrimination Act - due to come in on October 10 - will mean for tenants.

The Act aims to tackle physical barriers faced by disabled people in getting equal access to services.

Issues discussed at the meeting included how the Act will affect people with hidden disabilities or sensory impairments, how it will tackle discrimination and how it will affect access and changes to houses on estates.

Disabled people and their carers also attended the event to give their views and to gain information.
