HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman has been promised action over a long-running ground rents saga.

Mr Sheerman met billionaire businessman Vincent Tchenguiz, whose family trust owns Estates and Management.

The company own the leases for hundreds of properties across Huddersfield.

There have been many complaints about a lack of information and exorbitant administration charges.

Mr Sheerman said: "Vincent Tchenguiz seemed to take the complaints against his company very seriously.

"Estates and Management bosses who were present at the meeting admitted that there had been problems, which they blamed on outsourcing to other companies. They have now pledged to run all their administration in-house.

"I was concerned that Estates and Management bosses gave the impression that the complaints were insignificant.

"They also appeared to be confused about the entry into force of provisions of the Leasehold Reform Act governing their operations.

"However, I am encouraged by Vincent Tchenguiz's attitude and personal intervention.

"I am delighted that following our meeting they have discontinued use of the premium rate phone lines.

"I am making sure that Vincent Tchenguiz receives details of our problems with Estates and Management so that he can directly monitor the situation as he has promised to do."

Following Mr Sheerman's demands for a debate in the House of Commons on the corporate governance structure of the Tchenguiz family's empire which includes Estates and Management, Vincent Tchenguiz asked to meet Mr Sheerman to find out more about his concerns.

Mr Sheerman said: "With over four years of complaints about this company, changes in the law and unmet promises to change, I was determined to tackle the billionaire businessman about the conduct of Estates and Management.

"I hope that this is finally the light at the end of the tunnel for thousands for leaseholders."
