'Targeted operation' sees 25-year-old man arrested in possession of weapon

Incident occurred on Wednesday night in Batley area

Armed police closed a main road in Kirklees as they swooped to arrest a man.

The operation shut off part of Bradford Road near Wilton Park, Batley , last night and arrested a motorist in what they described as “a targeted operation.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police stopped a grey Vauxhall Insignia shortly after 6.40pm yesterday, (Wed), on Bradford Road, Batley.

“A 25-year-old man, from Huddersfield, was arrested from the vehicle on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug, possession of a prohibited weapon and a public order offence in Brighouse in November, 2015.

“He remains in custody at this time.”
