A BRAVE taxi driver disarmed a gun-toting robber who tried to steal from him.

The raider got into 31-year-old Fida Hussain's car in Brighouse and asked to be taken to the Ovenden area of Halifax.

During the journey Mr Hussain became concerned at the way the man was shouting and swearing.

As he neared the destination at 12.35am on Tuesday, the passenger pulled an antique-looking rifle from a black bin liner, pointed it at Mr Hussain's head and demanded his takings.

Mr Hussain said: "I slammed on my brakes and grabbed hold of it.

"I managed to pull the gun from his hands and he fell out of the car."

The man then fled empty-handed.

Police now have the gun.

The man was desc- ribed as white, aged 30 to 35 with short hair and a long face.
