A TAXI driver had to be cut free from his cab after a crash at Lepton.

The injured man was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with back and neck injuries after the crash in the early hours of yesterday in Wakefield Road.

The Vauxhall Vectra crashed into metal railings after careering across a roundabout.

Fire crews from Elland, Brighouse and Skelmanthorpe were called to the accident scene.

Part of the road was closed while they rescued the driver.

Watch Commander Stephen Bates, of Elland fire station, said: “He was conscious but was badly hurt.

“We cut the roof off the car so that we could get him out by using a longboard stretcher, to prevent any further injury,” added Watch Commander Bates.
