Police are linking two violent attacks on Huddersfield cabbies.

In the first a taxi driver was threatened by two masked men during an armed robbery in Bradley.

And just an hour later a another driver was robbed in Deighton in what police believe was a linked attack.

A 20-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The first incident happened about 10.43pm last Friday, when two men got into a taxi in St Thomas Gardens, Bradley and demanded money from the driver.

One of the men threatened the driver with a weapon, believed to have been some sort of sharp object, and the driver handed over his takings.

Both men were wearing balaclavas and dark clothing, then left on foot towards the Bradley estate.

About an hour later, at 11.50pm, a taxi was called to Shepherds Grove in Deighton.

As the taxi waited, a man opened the passenger door and demanded money.

As this happened a second man opened the driver’s door and removed a quantity of cash from the driver’s money box.

The suspects then left, walking up the path to the lower playing fields at The Deighton Centre.

Neither driver was hurt.

Det Insp Andy Leonard of Kirklees CID, said: “At this stage we believe these two incidents to be linked and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“Thankfully neither driver was hurt during the two attacks but they could have been a lot more serious.”

Officers want to speak to two males in connection with the incidents. They are both believed to be in their mid to late teens and are of slim build.

Any witnesses to either incident or anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Bradley and Deighton areas of Huddersfield to contact Kirklees CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
