A LOCAL teacher will spend Easter as a volunteer at a special needs school in northern India.

Stewart Geddes, a special needs teacher at Hollybank School in Mirfield, will spend two weeks at the Ngoenga Special Needs School at Dehra Dun.

He will be sharing his expertise with local staff and children.

The school is said to be the first government-initiated Tibetan school in India for children with disabilities.

It accepts children from all over India, Nepal and Bhutan with all forms of disability.

Due to the regional poverty it has to rely on donations to enable students to have an education.

Stewart, who lives in Meltham,

is also hoping to raise funds to buy essential equipment to enable the staff to aid the students' learning.

Anyone interested in raising funds or sponsoring a child, can contact Stewart on 01484 327055 or on 19924 490833.
