Teachers are being given the chance to see how government works ... from the inside.

Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell is encouraging teachers to take part in a training opportunity in parliament hosted by the Parliamentary Education Service.

The Teachers’ Institute is an annual residential course which allows teachers to experience parliament in action. Delegates will take part in a variety of events, including question and answer sessions with members of both Houses, talks from subject specialists and workshops focusing on key aspects of parliament’s work on the new National Curriculum. Resources will also be provided for use in the classroom.

The course will take place between June 30 and July 4 and is open to teachers and professionals working with children aged seven to 18 across citizenship, politics, law, history and other related subjects. Transport and accommodation costs are covered for all successful applicants.

Mr Reevell said “It’s so important to encourage young people to understand our political system and our teachers are at the forefront of that. The Teachers’ Institute offers an opportunity to share ideas and I hope that anyone working with children in this area will seize this opportunity”.

The closing date for applications is 8am on Monday, March 31. To find out more about the Teachers’ Institute can do so online at www.parliament.uk/education/in-your-school/teachers-institute or by calling Nicola Peacock on 0207 219 1152.
