Two teams have set off from Huddersfield on the adventure of a lifetime.

They have embarked on a four-day mini tour of Europe in aid of charity and are doing it old bangers.

The teams from Valli Opticians and Deco-Pak are taking on the Forget Me Not 500, a banger rally going through England, Belgium and France in aid of Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

This will conclude with a visit to the world-famous Le Mans 24 hour race.

Teams were given £500 towards their expenses for the trip, and it was then up to them to raise the target sponsorship of £3,000.

Kate Goldring, corporate partnership manager at the charity said: “The Forget Me Not 500 offers an exciting and unique way for supporters to get involved with our charity and we have been thrilled with the great efforts that both Valli Opticians and Deco-Pak have put in to the rally.

“Their cars look absolutely fantastic and we can’t wait to hear how they got on when they get back, their support has been incredible and we would like to say a huge thank you to them both.”

The route for the rally saw them driving to Hull on Day One before catching an overnight ferry to Rotterdam.

Day Two saw them travelling from Rotterdam to Brussels where they enjoyed lunch before heading to Paris for the evening.

Today, the teams will make the journey from Paris down to Le Mans where the teams could choose to spend the day at the Le Mans 24-hour race before catching the ferry back to Portsmouth.

The final leg of the Forget Me Not 500 will be the drive from Portsmouth back to Russell House where the teams will be welcomed back from their travels.

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice provides care for over 100 families through its state of the art hospice Russell House, Huddersfield, and the Hospice at Home service.

The charity needs to raise £2.8 million each year to provide their services and with less than 5% of this coming from government funding, the local community’s support is vital.
