A SOCCER club for children found the perfect pitch when a manager looked out of his own window.

The Junior Collegians club was looking for a new home after it outgrew the single pitch at Outlane Junior and Infant School.

The under-9s manager, Martin Wimpenny, was looking out of the window of his Lindley home and saw an architect he knew strolling over wasteland off West Street.

He said: "He said Lindley Swifts rugby league club planned to build a clubhouse there. So when the Swifts decided not to move there we approached Kirklees Council.

"At first we were told we could have it from next September. But the council worked exceptionally hard and we first played on it on September 4 - a year in advance.

"We reckon we have one of the best sites in Huddersfield. It is surrounded by woodland and the views go all down the valley to Huddersfield Golf Club at Fixby."

The club's under 7s, under 8s and under 9s train at the site every Saturday morning.
