A West Yorkshire teenager has died after falling more than 100ft while climbing in the Lake District. The 19-year-old, from Wakefield who has not yet been named, was with his brother on rocks near the old mines in Coniston when the accident happened on Wednesday afternoon. A spokesman for the Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said the teenager died instantly after falling from the crags. His brother was winched to safety after suffering the effects of shock. Cumbria Police are investigating the incident. The men are thought to come from the Wakefield area. An RAF helicopter was involved in the mission at Dow Crag, an area of the 2,000ft-high Coniston Old Man mountain. The alarm was raised by a female walker who saw the man fall and called the emergency services on a mobile phone.
