A teenager was hit with a wooden bat in a robbery by a gang of youngsters in Huddersfield.

Detectives are appealing for information after the incident in Alder Street which involved a number of attackers, some aged as young as 13.

The 17-year-old male victim was walking home with his brother at about 9.10pm on Friday when they were approached by the gang.

One demanded money before the rest of the group surrounded the victim and one struck him with a wooden bat. A mobile phone was stolen and the pair were then chased by the group.

It is believed the gang were later seen in the Woodhouse Hill area of Huddersfield.

The group consists of six to eight males, aged between 13 and 16-years-old. The suspects are described as dark skinned, other than one who was a white male with ginger hair and freckles. One of the suspects was wearing a hooded top, with the hood up and a bandana across his face.

Det Con Oliver Coates, of Kirklees CID, said: “This was a traumatic ordeal for the victim and his brother, thankfully neither of them sustained any injuries.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area on Friday night and witnessed anything or saw this group of males in the area or in Woodhouse Hill to come forward to assist with our enquiries.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact myself at Kirklees CID via 101 quoting reference 13160304002 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
