A teenage girl was robbed at a cashpoint in broad daylight near a pub in town.

The 17-year-old victim was withdrawing the money at the ATM near to The Old Hatte pub on the corner of Henry Street and Trinity Street at 3.25pm on Tuesday.

A male suspect approached her demanding her purse and phone, before taking the purse and running off in the direction of Westgate towards McDonalds.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s, around 6ft 4ins, muscular build, and speaking with a local accent.

He was wearing a black hooded top with a kangaroo pouch and the hood up, black trousers and black Nike air max trainers.

Det Con Mick Cummings, of Kirklees CID said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this distressing incident to come forward and speak to the police.

“The incident occurred in the busy town centre and in broad daylight.

“Anyone who was also approached by this suspect or saw him in the vicinity is asked to contact me at Kirklees CID via 101, quoting reference number 13160178579
