TWO teenage students were in court today charged in connection with an investigation into suspected terrorist activity overseas.

The 18-year-olds have been charged under section 58 of the Terrorism Act.

Awaab Iqbal, from Bradford, has been charged with possessing information likely to be useful to a terrorist.

He was held at his home in Bradford last Thursday.

As part of the investigation, a number of homes in the Bradford area were searched by police.

The full charge against Iqbal, who turns 19 today, alleges that between February 23 this year and March 3 this year he "possessed a record of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism".

Irfan Raja, from Ilford in Essex, has been charged with making a record of information likely to be useful to a terrorist.

He was arrested on February 27. Both were appearing before Bow Street Magistrates' Court.

The full charge against Raja alleges that between December 31 last year and February 24 he "made a record of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism" .
