A teenager was kicked and punched to the ground by two men in Huddersfield.

The attack happened at around 3.55am to 4am on Saturday morning in The Shambles off King Street when the 17-year-old boy was on a night out.

He was approached while outside Mavericks Bar by one mixed race man who demanded money from him.

The man grabbed the teen by the clothing and walked him to a cash machine near to WHSmith, where another white man appeared and both told him to give them £100.

They then told him they had weapons and the mixed race man pulled out a knife while the white man said he had a gun but did not produce it.

The victim refused to give them any money, leading the men to punch and kick him to the ground and then continue to kick his head.

A couple sat on a nearby bench shouted at the pair to stop and they ran off back towards Mavericks.

The couple then helped the victim to the Piazza where they contacted the police.

According to West Yorkshire Police, the victim was treated but did not suffer serious injuries.

They have now launched a CCTV inquiry and are appealing for the couple or anyone else who saw the incident to come forward.

Both attackers are believed to be in their mid twenties and the mixed race man has been described as having short black hair and wearing a green-grey summer hat.

The white male was reported to have been wearing a black bomber jacket.

Speaking about the incident, Detective Inspector Mark Truelove, said: “We are going to do everything we can to pursue this matter.”
