A teenager broke into a church after being ordered to leave a class there the previous day.

The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to burglary when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

The offence occurred at St Patrick’s Church in New North Road on March 9.

Shamaila Qureshi, prosecuting, said that the teenager had attended at the church the previous day.

He was there for a training programme aimed at underprivileged people but had been asked to leave because he was not paying attention.

Magistrates heard that the teen then climbed through an insecure window, unlocked the door and let a female who was with him in.

He returned the next day, entering through the same window, and stole a laptop and a projector from a classroom.

His fingerprints were found on the window and police discovered the stolen items stashed under his bed.

Magistrates gave the teen a 12-month referral order, aimed at rehabilitating him and addressing his behaviour.
