A teenager ditched his drugs in a garden after fleeing a car when it was stopped by police.

Kessar Naveed, 18, threw away the blue tub containing 11 bags of cannabis as he was chased by police from the abandoned vehicle.

Kirklees magistrates yesterday heard that he was keen to stop using the class B drug.

The teen, of Hawthorne Avenue in Batley, admitted possession of a controlled drug when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said that the offence happened on February 7.

Police noticed a Peugeot travelling along Halifax Road at Dewsbury and signalled at it to stop because of a defect.

However, the driver accelerated away from them and was pursued by the officers.

The driver left the car and ran off, followed by Naveed who was a passenger.

Mr Bozman said: “He was detained after a short chase and was seen by police abandoning a blue tub into a garden.

The tub had 11 bags of drugs inside and forensic experts confirmed this as cannabis.”

Magistrates heard that the estimated street value of the drugs was 130.

Naveed was arrested but exercised his right to silence in interview.

He later admitted that the drugs were for his own personal use.

The court was told that the teenager was last in court in January over a drugs related matter.

The apprentice plumber was described as “remorseful” for his actions and keen to overcome his addiction.

Magistrates adjourned his sentencing so that he could be interviewed by the Probation Service.
