A teenager suffered a severe leg injury after coming off his bike in Dewsbury town centre.

Police and ambulance crews were called to School Street, at the junction with Church Street, at 11.50am on Monday.

The 18-year-old came off his bike and fell awkwardly, causing a nasty injury to his leg.

Due to the severity of the injury the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was alerted. The helicopter landed in a car park in nearby Union Street but was not needed.

The teenager was taken to Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, by road ambulance.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said no other vehicle was involved.
