A man was attacked with a hammer during a violent altercation at a house in Kirklees.

Police were alerted to a disturbance at a house in Navigation Gardens in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers attended the address in Thornhill and found an 18-year-old man had suffered serious facial injuries. They called in paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

He was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital and treated for his injuries.

Det Insp Jim Griffiths said: “A 18-year-old man was hit in the face with a hammer and suffered three fractures to his jaw.

“This incident is being treated as isolated and we are trying to trace a 20-year-old suspect at this time.”

In a separate incident a 51-year-old Kirklees man has now reported an attack which happened on Tuesday evening.

He was found in the street having been attacked and knocked out. He was awoken by a passer-by and managed to make his own way home but then went to hospital.

It was found he had suffered a broken jaw and has since undergone surgery to insert a metal plate into it.

It is thought the attack happened at 11pm on Tuesday on Albion Street, Cleckheaton.
