A TEENAGER and a 26-year-old woman are today fighting for their lives after a crash in Kirklees.
The 16-year-old girl and 26-year-old woman were passengers in a Seat Ibiza which smashed into a parked Ford Ka in Batley last night.
The Ibiza then careered into a garden wall and overturned onto its roof.
Both were trapped in the mangled wreckage although two men managed to scramble out and were not badly hurt.
The crash happened just before 8pm last night on Commonside in Batley close to close to its junction with Peter Hill.
The road was sealed off for several hours while police accident experts worked at the scene.
Watch Commander John Jackson from Batley fire station said: “The Ford Ka had been shunted around 20m along the road so it was a high impact crash. “Two females were trapped in the Seat Ibiza with serious injuries. We had to use cutting gear to take the side of the car off to get them out and then both were taken direct to Leeds General Infirmary. The rescue operation took around 45 minutes.
“Two males who had also been in the car had managed to scramble out.”
The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was also called to the scene but was unable to land due to the high number of overhead power cables in the area.
Police confirmed early today that both casualties had suffered “potentially fatal injuries.”
