A TEENAGER rescued his badly-injured girlfriend after an horrific car crash on the Calderdale moors.

Joshua Reade, 17, dragged 16-year-old Jessica from the wrecked car after it crashed through a fence and somersaulted on moorland.

Last night, the injured girl was in intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary with serious multiple injuries.

Both youngsters were in the back seat of a Peugeot which careered through a fence in Turvin Road near Ripponden on Tuesday evening and crashed into a field. Police are questioning the car driver, a man in his 50s.

The two youngsters were on their way to visit relatives in Calderdale from Joshua’s home in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester.

Joshua’s mother Gillian Reade said: “The car ended up on its side and smoke started billowing out from the engine. Joshua managed to scramble out of the window and dragged Jessica out.

“Both were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary but Jessica was later transferred to Leeds because of her injuries.”

The driver was freed by fire crews and is in the Infirmary.
