A SHELTER designed for teenagers to meet in is to be moved after fears about anti-social behaviour.

The teen-pod in Upper Hopton, Mirfield, has been in a park off Jackroyd Lane for a year.

It is designed to give young people and teenagers a place to meet.

A similar pod has been successful in Almondbury.

But the one in Upper Hopton has caused problems and some people living nearby have complained.

At an Upper Hopton Community Association meeting only seven people voted to remove the pod.

But it was agreed to move it to another area of the park which is less hidden.

Clr Martyn Bolt said he was pleased it had been decided not to get rid of the shelter.

He added: "If the pod goes the problem will just move somewhere else.

"By moving the pod and making it a bit more public, hopefully some of the anti-social behaviour will stop and residents will feel safer.

"It is a shame the teen pod has not been a great success because a lot of people worked very hard to get it put in.

"There were also concerns it was too close to the smaller children's play area, so we will move it away from that.

"It is important we ask everyone where they think it should go to solve this problem," said Clr Bolt.
