TWO tennis players have visited the hallowed turf of Wimbledon.

Women's doubles partners Kate Foster (left) and Linda Horn, who both live at Shepley, travelled to the famous tennis complex to play in the two-day British Women's Tennis Association's Masters Tournament.

To qualify, the Holmfirth Tennis Club members won a Huddersfield contest in July.

At Wimbledon, they took on 16 other doubles teams at the indoor courts, where professional tennis stars warm up before Wimbledon tournament matches.

They were knocked out in the semi-final.

It was the pair's first trip to Wimbledon and the first time in the contest.

Kate said: "We didn't know what the standard would be and I think we did well.

"We had a look at the courts and soaked up the atmosphere. It was brilliant. Just being so close after you have seen it all on TV is a fantastic experience."

Kate and Linda have played doubles together for about five years, but have played individually for around 10 years.

It was the Holmfirth club's coach who encouraged them to enter the tournament.

Kate said: "We would like to go back next year. But we can't play together again. You have to pick a different partner every time."
