A defenceless terminally ill one-legged pensioner was grabbed round the throat and robbed as he sat at home watching TV.

The 75-year-old man endured a terrifying raid on his property at Wren Street in Paddock last night.

Detectives are hunting a white man who appeared in his flat at 9.15pm, threatened him and ripped a gold chain from his neck.

The man, who has lung cancer and has had a leg amputated, suffered a minor hand cut but was checked out by doctors at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

Acting Detective Inspector, Ian Thornes, said: "He was sitting in his flat watching TV and it appears someone has left the communal front door open.

"The victim's flat door was also open so his carer could come in.

"Suddenly a man has appeared behind him and made demands for money.

"He's grabbed him round the throat and pulled a gold chain from his neck.

"He then made a search of the property and stolen other items before escaping."

The suspect is a while male in his 30s, possibly younger, of a short and stocky build.

He is about 5ft 6ins tall, was wearing a dark grey hooded top and blue jeans.

Acting DI Thornes added: "We'd like to hear from anyone that saw a man of that description hanging around in Paddock or knocking on doors."
