The widow of Huddersfield suicide bomber Jermaine Lindsay has been profiled in a new documentary film.

Samantha Lewthwaite claimed to have now knowledge that the former Rawthorpe High School student was one of the 7/7 bombers.

She claimed to have no knowledge of the plot her husband was involved in and condemned his actions, after he and three other West Yorkshire radicals killed 56 people on Tube trains and a bus in London.

But now she’s on the run – probably somewhere in Africa – charged with conspiracy to cause explosions.

For three years, British, American and Kenyan security services have been after the woman dubbed The White Widow. She was also suspected of being involved in the massacre at the Westgate Shopping Centre in Nairobi last September.

Film-maker Adam Wishart has spent more than a year tracking the extraordinary story of Lewthwaite and spoke to people in Huddersfield and in Dewsbury, where another of the 7/7 bombers, Mohammed Siddique Khan, lived.

In his film, he traced Lewthwaite’s path to radicalisation and speaks to the hate preacher who inspired her.

Abdullah el-Faisal was jailed for four years for inciting murder and he reveals to Wishart that while Samantha was under police protection following the 7/7 bombings, she would visit him in prison and that they spoke on the telephone frequently. Seemingly, the police did nothing about this.

It was also el-Faisal who introduced the White Widow to her second husband, who she went on to marry the day after arriving in South Africa in 2008.

Following her trail to Africa, Wishart uncovers Lewthwaite’s double life and stolen identity.

At one time she was the assistant manager at a halal pie shop and was also developing a workout programme for pregnant women called Pregisize but her marriage would provide her strongest link to al-Qaeda.

The White Widow: Searching for Samantha is on BBC1, 10:35pm tonight.
