A PAEDOPHILE from Dewsbury has been jailed for 42 years in Thailand for sex crimes against young boys.

Robert Errol Woods, 24, was convicted of luring eight boys under 15 years of age and taking their pictures for distribution on the Internet.

He was sentenced yesterday by the Bangkok Criminal Court, a court official said today.

Woods was charged with removing the boys from the care of their parents between August 2002 and January 2003, molesting them, letting others molest them and conspiring with others to molest them.

He was originally sentenced to 63 years in jail but it was reduced to 42 years because he co-operated.

The sentence is one of the longest ever given to a foreigner for this type of crime in Thailand.

As an interpreter translated the verdict, Woods banged on the table and hurled abuse at the judge.

He apologised but was sentenced to an additional two months for contempt. He has 30 days to appeal.

Woods is believed to have been brought up in Dewsbury but had addresses in Manchester and the Thames Valley.

He was arrested in January of this year as he boarded a flight to London after more than five months on holiday in the Thai capital.

Detectives from Greater Manchester Police's paedophile unit had tracked pornography sent from Bangkok back to the United Kingdom by Woods.

The court was told that he had rented an apartment in Bangkok and then lured homeless boys back to the room.

He filmed himself having sex with the boys and sent out the images via the Internet, offering them for sale to other paedophiles.
