A HUDDERSFIELD woman is the proud owner of a new bicycle - all thanks to a balloon.

Christine Johnson, of Sheepridge, won the £500 mountain bike by taking part in a balloon race at Kirkwood Hospice's gala day.

She is pictured receiving her prize from hospice fundraiser Kate Leadbeater.

The event, held at the Dalton hospice, involved people buying a balloon and tagging it with their names.

Each balloon carried the hospice address on it, so anyone who found one could return it.

The deadline for returning the balloons was October 7.

Christine won the bike because her balloon was returned having travelled the furthest - to Durham.

Christine, a mum- of-three, said she was delighted with the bike.

She added: "It will be great to go out cycling with the children because it is a healthy pastime.

"I have been meaning to get fit for a while, so to get this will give me an incentive. It's brilliant."
