THE MYSTERY of a missing walking stick has deepened.

Railway model enthusiast Jim Noble had appealed for his distinctive walking stick to be returned after it went missing at an exhibition.

A similar stick turned up at a Huddersfield charity shop and hopes were raised it was the missing one.

But sadly it wasn't and an appeal has now gone out to find the owner of the one given to the Mind shop on John William Street.

Jim, of New Mill, was helping at the Huddersfield Railway Modellers annual open day at Stonefield Mills, Tanyard Road in Milnsbridge last Saturday when the stick went missing.

The cherry wood stick was 70 years old and had brass badges stuck to it, showing holiday destinations Mr Noble had visited.

The stick handed into Mind on Wednesday was given by a man who said he had found it in a skip.

This stick also has badges on it from the UK and abroad and shop manager Janet Ellis is anxious to trace its owner.

She said: "It was very disappointing when this turned out not to be Mr Noble's missing stick.

"We would like to get it back to the owner."
