HUDDERSFIELD New College has been helping to celebrate the twinning link between Kirklees and French town Besançon.

A French theme day at the school included a play, food, poetry and exhibitions and marked the 50th anniversary of the link between the two areas.

Twinning has led to a link between French school Lycée Louis Tergaud and the New College. School exchanges take place every year.

This year's exchange is particularly significant because 20 students from France took part in the celebrations.

Some of the New College students will be making a return trip in March.

Sandra McManus, the college's international links officer, who organised the French day, said: "It's a chance for the students to work together. The language students can benefit from the French students and vice versa."

Further celebrations of the twinning link are planned for later in the year.
