LEEDS United fans are unlikely to hang on to an Alan Smith shirt following his recent defection to Manchester United.

But rather than bin the offending top, they are being asked to donate it young Macedonian football fans.

Soccer fans can give any unwanted strip to the Yorkshire Building Society's `Send Shirts to Skopje' campaign.

Shirts are being sent out to disadvantaged and disabled children and adults in Macedonia, north of Greece.

The fans form village teams when they have a complete strip.

Macedonia is the poorest country in the former Yugoslavia.

Skopje is twinned with Bradford, the home of the Yorkshire Building Society.

Shirts can be taken to any branch of the Yorkshire Building Society or posted to: Send Shirts to Skopje, c/o Catapult PR, 19a-20a Marsh Mill Village, Thornton Cleveleys, Lancashire, FY5 4JZ.
