THE Heritage Lottery Fund has given £34,100 to the Kirklees Theatre Trust.

It was the fund's 18th grant awarded in Kirklees, bringing the total amount so far to almost £5.5m.

Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman welcomed this latest grant.

He said: "I am delighted that funding has been awarded to this important project, which will collect, conserve and display archive material about the Lawrence Batley Theatre and its users.

"I will continue to support the lottery wholeheartedly.

"It has transformed so many of our historic buildings and supported critical voluntary activities".

Other projects to receive grants from the Heritage Lottery fund include the Cricketing Heritage of Calderdale and Kirklees project, which received £43,600 in 2004.
