EXCITED young performers from Huddersfield will take to the stage of one of Britain’s most famous theatres this weekend.

The 35 young performers from the Almondbury-based Theatretrain project will be performing at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

On Sunday evening, they will be taking part in a colourful, brash show called Now Then – but then it’s back down to earth with a bump as they will be back at school on Monday.

The show incorporates dance, song and drama, covering 27 musical years and transports the audience back to Then, whilst reminding them of Now.

The music covers artists ranging from the Beach Boys to Adele and JLS to the Black Eyed Peas.

Huddersfield Theatretrain has already performed at London Palladium and is starting work in the new term next week for next year’s show – scheduled for the huge O2 Arena.

Centre director, Rachel Root, said: “It’s a great challenge to take our pupils and put them on one of the most famous stages in the UK.

“We are talking about youngsters aged from just six up to 16 but they work very hard.

“Theatretrain is a franchise and each year they put on one big show and we are one of eight centres invited to perform at Sadler’s Wells.

“We get together at King James’s School for only three hours a week, but we have been rehearsing for the past 12 weeks and they look good.

“It makes them sharp and focused as they join pupils from other centres. We went down to Sadler’s Wells last weekend for a run-through and will be there for a full dress rehearsal on Sunday afternoon prior to the performance on Sunday evening.”

The Huddersfield stars will feature in several scenes but have come up with their own showstopper called Where Is The Love, in which they introduce drama and signing as well as dancing and singing.

“It will be a long day but it should be one to remember” Rachel added.
