Huddersfield Town fans will be hoping the club’s new racehorse is better than clippety-Klopp.

Professional gambler and racing syndicate boss Richard Ward is selling shares in football club-themed racehorses.

He plans to have a string of horses but the first two – for Town and Liverpool – are about to make their racecourse debuts.

Town and Liverpool are, of course, managed by best pals David Wagner and Jurgen Klopp and the two sides clash in a pre-season friendly at the John Smith’s Stadium on July 20. The teams will go head-to-head for the Shankly Trophy, a cup named in honour of legendary boss Bill Shankly, who managed both clubs.

Fans named Town’s two-year-old filly Huddersfilly Town in a competition and the horse is in training with Ivan Furtado at Wiseton Stables near Doncaster.

The Town filly is going well and is expected to hit the racecourse at the end of June.

The Liverpool horse Shelneverwalkalone, who lives in the next box at the same stables, will be out first and is entered for a six-furlong race at Pontefract on Monday night.

The race night is themed around rugby league and players from Huddersfield Giants, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Castleford Tigers and Featherstone Rovers will be there.

Ironically, Shelneverwalkalone will run in the Huddersfield Giants Novice Auction Fillies’ Stakes (6.45pm).

Town fan Richard, brought up in Cowcliffe, said he was excited at the prospects for both horses.

“Ivan certainly likes Huddersfilly Town and thinks she will definitely win a race,” he said.

“We hope she’ll be on the track by the end of the month and she’s being aimed at a race at Doncaster in September but she will need to show promise in her early races for that to prove realistic.

“There is likely to be some friendly rivalry between Town and Liverpool this summer and Town fans will hope their filly is better than Klopp’s.”

There are around 20 shareholders in the Town filly all paying a monthly subscription towards training fees.

The Town filly will carry the blue and grey silks of Richard’s Blue Grey Chevron syndicate but the jockey will wear a blue and white striped cap.

The jockey’s silks still need a main sponsor at £480 plus VAT. Out of that a donation of £100 will be made to Town’s Keep It Up campaign. The silks will also feature the Examiner logo on the collar.

Punters going to Pontefract on Monday are advised to keep stakes small but Richard said: “Shelneverwalkalone is going well so you never know!”
