A WOMAN in Huddersfield may be in for a nice surprise this weekend when her boyfriend proposes to her.

But she may also be in for a nasty shock.

The ring he slips on her finger may be stolen.

A thief stole the ring from Argos in Huddersfield town centre after telling the shop assistant he was planning to get engaged this weekend.

He went into the store in the Pack Horse Centre at 1.40pm on Thursday and asked the 25-year- old assistant to try on several rings to see which he liked best.

He then grabbed an 18-carat gold ring from her finger and fled.

He is white, 5ft 6in tall, and wore a blue and white tracksuit over a white top and a blue baseball cap which had the England emblem on it.

Anyone who knows his identity - or is proposed to by him this weekend - should call Pc Phil Geldart on 01484 436659.
