A BRAZEN thief grabbed rings worth thousands of pounds in a jewellery raid.

The teenager walked into H Samuel jewellers on King Street in Huddersfield town centre at 12.45pm yesterday and asked to look at some diamond solitaire rings.

But when the 21-year-old assistant unlocked the display cabinet to get a tray of rings out, the man suddenly struck.

He pushed her out of the way, grabbed five diamond rings and ran out of the shop.

The assistant suffered a slight shoulder injury.

The thief is a mixed race Asian teenager aged 15 to 18, 5ft 4in tall and skinny.

He wore a black hooded top, light-coloured pants and a cream baseball cap.

Det Con Stewart Green, of Huddersfield police, said: "We are checking footage from CCTV cameras in the area, but would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the thief hanging around before the robbery or making his getaway afterwards."
