A THIEF escaped with just 30p after targeting a terrified teenage girl in Huddersfield.

The 13-year-old girl was walking with a 15-year-old friend at Whitehead Lane in Primrose Hill on Tuesday.

At around 8.15pm, they were approached from behind by a man in his early 20s.

He grabbed the younger girl's right arm and twisted it behind her back, pulling her purse from the right hand.

The two girls ran off in fright but stopped and turned back when they heard the man whistle behind them.

He emptied the purse in front of them and then throw it on the floor before leaving the scene.

The girls went back for the purse before running home.

Pc Dave McSweeney said: "It was quite nasty for the girls. They were just walking, minding their business and it was unprovoked."

The man is desc- ribed as a white male, of skinny build, with short brown hair shaved at the sides and shaped into a point at the front.

He wore a white zip up jacket with writing on the front, blue baggy jeans and had prominent cheek bones.
